The consumption of fast foods | IELTS Writing Task 1 Kampung Inggris


The chart shows the amount of money per week spent on fast foods in Britain. The graph shows the trends in consumption of fast foods.


Answer 1:


The bar chart compares the proportion of expenditure for fast food per week in three different categories of people depending on their income namely high, average, and low for pizza, hamburger and fish and chips in UK, 1990. The line chart illustrates the changes of popular fast foods in a twenty-year period from 1970 to 1990.

On the whole, the high expenditure of fast food could be seen into people who have high and average income and spent on hamburger, while low income chose fish and chips. Conversely, the popular fast food was pizza in 1970, this continuously reduced in the year 1990. However, the popularity of hamburger and fish and chips showed a significant increase throughout the years.
High income category spent 42% for hamburger which was three times farther than both pizza and fish and chips expense. Looking at people with average income showed that the hamburger expense was 30%, fish and chips 25%, and pizza experienced three times less than hamburger trend. In contrast, people who are low income preferred to choose fish and chips for about 16% whilst hamburger 14% was twice more than the percentage of pizza.

The consumption both hamburger and fish and chips rose slightly between 1970 and 1990, however, 500 peoples who bought fish and chips being the highest consumption in the last period. Although pizza peaked at 300 people as the highest one in the first year, this figure was taken over by hamburger trend almost 300 in year 1990.

The bar chart compares about the expenditure of fast food spent per week by high, average and low income, while the consumption of fast food namely hamburger, fish & chips and pizza is presented in the line chart from 1970 to 1990.

Overall, the high expenditure of fast food seen into people with high and average income was hamburger. In contrast, the popular fast food which was consumed by people was pizza in 1970, however, this was taken over by hamburger and this trend showed the highest one until the last year period.

Hamburger consumed by high and average income was the highest expenditure, 42% and 33%. Fish and chips stood at 25% as the second higher than pizza consumption only 11%, while this fast food had an equal trend approximately 16% in both high and low income. Although fish and chips experienced almost the same expenditure as pizza in the high income category, that fast food witnessed 14% doubled higher than pizza for the low income.

The consumption of hamburger and fish and chips inclined slightly between 1970 and 1990, however, 500 peoples who bought fish and chips being highest consumption in last period. Though pizza peaked at 300 peoples as the highest one in 1970, this figure was taken over by hamburger trend almost 300 as well in 1990.
