To what extent do you
agree or disagree with this statement?
Material
comforts are believed by modern man as a pursuit of happiness to achieve better
financial status. This case might be the cost of denying traditional value
systems and customs. I believe, although some people get in touch in this
category, the majority of society still upholds traditional values even if they
obtain material prosperity.
It cannot
be denied that children should respect for elderly parents which is one of
traditional values, but it does not mean where today’s families must be allowed
to involve into the affairs of children’s lives and decisions. In fact,
children in modern era follow their own ways and are more independent to stand
on their feet earlier than before. So that does not mean that they do not have
respectful. Nowadays, the freedom of children’s act is sometimes as wrong
assumption because that is often misinterpreted as lack of respect for their
parents. Therefore, this actually can be as an example that traditional values
remain unchanged, although children’s expression may take different forms in
the passage of time.
People in
the past got accustomed to visit their neighborhood as a favorite custom,
which contributed in their relationship with their neighborhood. However,
since people today are too busy as they work for long hours in order to meet
their demands of modern life, this is not possible today closely with their neighborhood. But there still engages between neighborhood clubs and similar
groups in which people can meet during weekends and gather in the small social
activities that involve the greater chance to build up a friendly relationship
with people close to them.
In conclusion,
people who pursuit their material prosperity cannot be judge that they lead to
loss of traditional values. However, although the circumstance change, man
remains the same old ethical being.
